Bandwidth Delay Product

Bandwidth Delay Product (BDP) is the number of “bits on the wire” at any given time.  These are packets that have been sent, but not yet received.  A larger BDP requires larger buffers to store TCP data that has been transmitted, but not yet ACK’d.
